August in the garden: This is what you have to do to make your soil fall-proof!

Hello dear garden friends, August is here and it’s time to prepare our soil for the upcoming fall season. Here are some tips to help you get your garden ready for the colder months.

1st tillage:

In August, the soil should be loosened to give the roots more space. You can do this by ripping up the soil with a garden claw or spade. But remember not to dig too deep so as not to disturb the layers of soil.

2nd composting:

It’s also the perfect time to apply compost to the soil. The compost will improve soil structure and add nutrients that your plants need. If you don’t have your own compost, you can also use organic fertilizer.

3. Weed control:

Don’t forget to fight the weeds. Weeding in August can reduce weed growth in the fall months.

4. Irrigation:

Despite the fact that autumn is approaching, August is usually still a very dry period. Therefore, it is important to water the soil well.

5. Preparation for the next season:

Finally, it is a good idea to prepare the soil for sowing the autumn and winter plants. Remember to loosen the soil and add any nutrients you may need.

With these simple steps, your garden will be well prepared for the coming autumn. So, let’s get on with it and get our garden ready for the next season!

Sincerely, Hans Müller
